2062.29 Press Release: Nine Add Perez to Road Runners Staff
Mr. Perez, a 16 year BBA veteran, played most of his career with the Atlantic City Gamblers, where he amassed 1227 of his 1670 career hits. He had a .281 career batting average with a career OPS of .746, with highs of .311 and .861 in 2057, in his sole year with the Phoenix Talllllons.
Perez played his final two major league seasons with the Nine across 2058 and 2059, playing in just 88 games due to multiple injuries. Despite this, he was a team leader, always ready to help the new players wherever possible and traveling with the team on all its road trips.
"When I called Don," said GM Rob McMonigal, "it was perfect timing. He'd managed to superglue one of his hands to his face while putting together a model train and couldn't say no!" McMonigal laughs. "I'm just kidding. Maybe. We loved Don as a player and were sad it didn't work out better. Bringing in his level of experience to work with our new international kids and draftees is exactly what we were looking for."
"I'm not going to lie, I missed baseball," said Perez. "I need a bit of time away, but I found myself wandering the city parks, hoping to catch kids playing pickup ball or a league game or even some drunken idiots trying to play softball, just so I could watch or give some advice. I was delighted when Mac [McMonigal] called me. I'm ready to get the next generation of big league ball players started today."
Perez joins a perennial winner in the Road Runners, who have not had a losing record since 2052 and have made the playoffs all but one year starting in 2053.
