2062.23 Movin’ on up

Nathan Garrison started the process by replacing Crunchy Diaz with Jon "Porky" Mick and bringing up top prospect Felipe Cummings.

Then, after discussing several potential changes with his closest advisors, Garrison set off to make his team better.

The next step was to fire his assistant general manager and third base coach Ron Mosley and Roberto Ramos. Ramos was replaced by Willie Peters, the manager of the team's level A team in Danville.

Peters was replaced by Stephen Beanes, who had recently been hired to be the new manager in Adirondack. The team is currently looking for a replacement for their short A team.

Garrison asked manager Ivan Correa to meet him in his office. Correa had to step through a Forever Door for that to happen, something he still wasn't fully comfortable with.

NG: Come on in Ivan. Have a seat. Would like some coffee?

IC: Sure. That sounds great.

NG: I wanted to talk to you about the direction of the ball club.

IC: I know we're off to a rough start. I think Cummings is really going to help.

NG: I think so too. You know, one of the things I've come to like about you is your ability to really understand how players fit together on a roster.

IC: Thanks. I think that's a pretty fun thing to think about. I spend a lot of time on it.

NG: That's great to hear. How are you feeling about this whole managing thing after a little more than a year with it?

IC: It's really a different experience than anything a I've ever done. There's a lot to learn about it and I feel like I learn something every day.

NG: How about all the travel? How do your wife and kids feel about that?

IC: It can be tough but we're figuring it out.

NG: What would you think about being able to focus on the roster construction part of the job, without the day to day stress of managing the club or the need to travel all the time?

IC: What are you saying? Are you firing me?

NG: No, no. I'm promoting you. I want you to be my assistant general manager. Work here in Charlotte with me and go home to your wife and kids every night.

IC: Wow, that's a lot. And...I think it sounds great.

NG: Wonderful. I'm thinking we'll bring Walt Whitworth up from the Rookie club in Elkins to manage the big league club. We can hire a replacement for him in the next week or two and he'll have plenty of time to prep for their season.

IC: Sounds good to me. Have you considered sending Oman Ogun down to Richmond? I think he could use a little more time in the minors.

NG: Actually, we did discuss that. See, that's why you're perfect for this new role. You've got a knack for this. Why don't you tell your wife about the change before we set a press conference. Then we can get to work.
