Larry Stinson announced his retirement today according to sources inside the Calgary Pioneers organization.
Stinson, who is 40 years old, gave reporters some of his plans for the near future.
"I'm going to do a lot of hunting and fishing," he said. "I've always been focused on getting ready for the next season, so maybe now I can slow down and enjoy time away from it all."
Stinson went back and forth with the press in a friendly manner during his press conference.
"I'm sure there's a small-mouth bass out there with my name on it," he said.
Lifetime Stinson has played in 3067 games with a .304 batting average. Among his 3626 hits are 843 doubles, 23 triples and 881 home runs. He has also scored 2042 runs and driven in 2477 runs.
Stinson will go down as one of the greatest players to put on a BBA jersey. He played 20 seasons in the BBA, the first 6 with San Antonio and the last 14 with the Pioneers. Stinson won the Sawyer Silk Award in 2043. He finished second in the voting 3 times and third 3 times. He won the Gillstrom ROY Award in 2042, 12 Silver Slugger Awards, 1 Zimmer Award and was an All Star 10 times.

The Pioneers have talked with Stinson about joining the organization as a coach, although no details have been worked out. He will still have time to go fishing.
