2061 Batter of the Year

Once again the Outlaws were firmly planted in the bottom tier of offensive teams in the Monty. Some of that may have to do with the ballpark but mainly it is a result of management’s focus on pitching and defense to win ballgames. Either way, the team was rated between 13th and 15th in most offensive categories which means this is usually a tough award to hand out. However, this year, there were some standout performances that made things fairly simple. Here are the winners.

Best at the Plate
CF Hector Cano, Jr
Junior was quite simply the engine that ran the club for most of the year. He only played ¾ of the year as he had his annual injury and was out for 5 weeks in August and early September. Regardless he was able to put up a line of .274/30/77 with 70 runs scored. It is not our of the question that he could have gotten to 40/100 if he was completely healthy which would have put him top 10 in homers for the Johnson League. The Outlaws look forward to have Cano in the lineup in 2062.

Runner up
1B Michael Schultz
Schultz was another positive in the lineup. The 1st year player was brought over in the Kawano trade in the offseason and was firmly planted in the lineup at first. He hits for slightly more power against lefties but overall he slashed .236/35/99 and lead the team in ribbies. He scored 90 runs and was second on the team with 74 walks. It is easy to see the 27 year old getting 150+ games next year and adding to his totals if he can get slightly more protection in the lineup.

Honorable Mention
The last batter on the list is 36 year old veteran Patrick Strolz who just keeps doing what he does. He gets on base with a high average and adds a bit of power. He earned a .324/17/94 stat line and lead the team in average.

Yeah, there was certainly an infusion of power this year. The middle of the lineup had a power surge, now if we can get some baserunners on for these fellas we'd be onto something!
