Fiscus Looks to Raise Some Interest

June 5, 2061: Forever Land - Amid the turmoil of a jealousy scandal, a big bopper who mostly gets bruised up, and fans who are questioning her every move, Bikini Krill manager Kate Fiscus seems to know what she wants.

"Our guys have to stay focused," she said after the teams 11-7 victory over the visiting Twin City River Monsters tonight. "No one cares if its a Heartland team or not, they've got to get motivated to play them. I'm tired of seeing lackadaisical playing. She was responding to questions about Shea Valance, in particular, the 35-year-old who inherited an 11-2 lead, but then left after allowing five runs in the ninth to make the final score look closer than it was. "Big league hitters can hit, she said. Even the idiots in Portland. Shea has to know that. Hes got to stay focused."

It's worthy of note that the manager moved on to the next question when asked to consider if, after Valance had thrown two scoreless innings, she had left him in too long.

The next question was about one Micheal Buckley, the 27-year-old DH and part-time outfielder who is once again ready to come off the IL. He has proven to have 30 HR power, and his six homers in only 128 at bats is a nice rate. But between a seizing back and a fresh bout of tendonitis in the knee, has made Fiscuss life more difficult. Some reporters are opening wondering if Fiscus might do better with a more stable lineup, and are noting the team is better in the field when Buckley is not on the roster.

"That's stupid talk," she replied. "Michael can really drive the ball, you know? I prefer him in the saddle rather than stretched out on the trainer's table."

In the end, though, she circled around to the schedule as a meter for the teams uninspired play. Since entering inter-divisional play at 23-17, the team has treaded water, splitting series with Des Moines, Omaha, and Chicago as well as splitting the first two games with the River Monsters. "That's totally unacceptable," she said, her cheeks growing flush. "Its my job to get these guys focused on whats important, and you can bet your ass Ill be doing that fulltime. Its easy to go full throttle against Pacific teams, but our guys are professionals, and professionals can get it up for everyone. Fans can rest assured that I'll be working on that every minute of the day."

The team hosts Twin Cities at Forever Park again tomorrow night.
