Milatovic, who has logged 1,320 innings in his BBA career with a 4.79 ERA and 72 wins, has once again fallen victim to the injury bug, leaving the Wolves with a significant gap in their pitching staff.
Team Trainer Steve Allen, who is in his first year with the Wolves, addressed the injury with a mix of concern and self-reflection. “This is a tough one, no doubt about it. To lose two key players to season-ending injuries in my first year, well, people are starting to talk,” Allen said nervously. “I’m beginning to wonder if I might need to call in that favor from the green-eyed woman from the West Coast, because I could use some good luck right about now.”
Head Coach Chris Myers was more measured in his response, emphasizing the team's "next man up" mentality. “This is a big blow for us, but that’s baseball. We have a strong locker room, and everyone understands that when a guy goes down, the next man has to step up. We’ve got some good arms in AAA, and we’re confident that someone will rise to the occasion.”
General Manager Mike Simon confirmed that the team would be calling up an arm from AAA South Bend to fill the void left by Milatovic’s absence. “We’re obviously disappointed to lose Boris for the season, but we have some depth in our system, and now’s the time to give one of our young pitchers a shot at the big leagues. We’ll be making an announcement soon about who that’ll be.”
Milatovic’s injury comes as a major setback for the Wolves, who were counting on his experience and leadership on the mound. The team and its fans, including the dedicated "G.G." faithful, will be hoping for a strong recovery and a triumphant return next season. For now, the Wolves will look to rally and find new ways to keep their season on track.
