Allende Joins Bluebirds

With about $30 million of cap room available to spend in free agency, the Bluebirds elected to shore up their infield defense by signing Salvador Allende. The deal will pay Allende $9 million in year one and $4.5 million a year for 2058 (player option) and 2059 (team option), but for the seven time all star, it is about more than money.

“I’ve enjoyed a great career in Madison,” said Allende. “But I’m at the point of my career where I just want to win. Nashville is a place that can help me achieve the goal of a Monty. Plus, there were too many distractions in Madison. When Manobu went down last season, I kept getting strange calls and texts. Turns out it was Gertie looking for a new toy when her man went down. I probably should’ve moved to Bikini Atoll to get as far away as possible, but I want to win.”

Allende is a well-decorated player in the BBA, racking up 5 Zimmers and 3 Pucketts to go with his 7 All Star nods. The left-handed hitting Allende will offer a dose of great on-base skills atop the mighty Bluebirds lineup and his glove should help the left side of the infield with Brooks Eliot’s less-than-ideal range at shortstop. The 16 year veteran will likely be limited to starts versus RHP and his future is unknown with slugger Jorge Cano waiting for his moment in AAA.

Nice player and that glove at 3B over the span of 18 years and 1700+ games played. Yowza! Can't help but want him to finish his all star career with one team but seems like a good time to chase that trophy.
