Hitter of the Year - DH Don Moore
Consistent with how I vote for silver slugger awards, this category will usually be the player with the highest wRC+ on the team. For 2055 it was a close competition between Moore, Tyler Ober, and Chris Thomas. Ultimately I stick with Moore because to me he has the most aesthetically pleasing stat line, batting .289/.353/.507 with 39 doubles, 21 home runs, and 78 RBIs. This was Moore's age 25 season and I'm hopeful there's further development ahead for both his BB% and the potential to convert some of those doubles into homers. Moore was limited to 533 PAs overall, including only 11 PAs vLHP, and he only logged 8.2 innings in the outfield.
Fielder of the Year - 2B Marcello Custello
Custello's inconsistencies with the bat over the years have frustrated the San Fernando faithful, but there's no denying his prowess with the glove at 2B. Marcelo accrued a +6.9 ZR at 2B, 1.048 defensive efficiency, and only committed 5 errors. He was more mediocre across 105.1 innings at SS. Custello is no Dave Ackerman but he's probably one of the five or so best defensive 2B in the Brewster.
Starting Pitcher of the Year - SP Alexander Swanson
None of the San Fernando starters excelled in 2055, but at least with Alexander Swanson there is reason for optimism going forward. Swanson just recently turned 24 years old and lost his rookie status last season. In 2055, he threw 174 innings across 31 starts with a record of 13-10 and ERA of 4.50. Thanks to his home park, that ERA is good enough for a 101 ERA+. Under the hood the peripherals look even better--Swanson recorded 104 Ks, 57 BBs, and only 17 HRs. His FIP was 4.22.
Relief Pitcher of the Year - RP Slawomir Trzcinski
Slaw Dawg had the best season I can remember a reliever having in San Fernando since I took the helm. The lefty threw 94.1 innings with a 3.34 ERA--good enough for 1.9 WAR from the relief pitcher Trzcinski notched 78 Ks, 25 BBs, and 9 HRs allowed. After a few midseason trades he became the Bears' stopper and also saved 17 games.
Rookie of the Year - LF Tynan Rose
The Bears had several young players contribute in significant ways in 2055 but—fortunately for Tynan Rose—both Alexander Swanson and Jim Young shed the rookie label in 2054. Rose competed with some other late-season call-ups for this award--chiefly Naoki Kurioka, Carl McIndoe, and Vio Gal--who all excelled after promotion. Rose was primarily given a platoon role but he hit against pitchers of either hand. Overall, his triple slash line was .356/.412/.699 and he hit 7 HRs across 80 PAs.
