Crawdad Chronicles 54.05 - 10th isnt good enough - $40M cap space to fix

New Orleans - after losing some big salaries - has some room to play in the offseason.

Current projections have New Orleans sitting at about 40M under the cap heading into the postseason. And that assumes they offer arbitration to SP Steve anderton - a solid, yet unspectacular Starting Pitcher.

New Orleans has holes. Lots of holes. They primarily need some offense. With Mal Fountain departing. Donestavez getting older. And other problems, the Crawdads finished 10th in the league in runs scored, 10th in HRs, and 10th in wOBA.

And then the pitching. 10th in Pitching WAR

And Defense - 10th in errors,

New Orleans will focus on the infield again for sure. They will try to find a solid bat at 1B - although will likely try not to break the bank for that.

They are hoping Jason Nelson is ready in AAA - although his 5.25 ERA in AAA didnt exactly impress the GM, and maybe needs one more year before coming up to the big club.
