#24 Coming to Yellow Springs?
July 8, 2042: Yellow Springs – With word out of Des Moines being that the services of one Don Smith are actually on the market, fans of the Yellow Springs Nine have already begun to celebrate.
“We know he wants to be here,” said Lavon Uhlman. “Now it’s just up to Collins to make it happen!”
Local sporting outlets reported a sudden run on #24 Nine jerseys, and call in shows have been flooded with discussions about whether the team would use a three-man rotation in the post season, and whether it would be Ramos, Pineda, or Valle who stepped into the bullpen if they went with a three-man. The consensus seems to be Ramos would be the candidate, but some have Valle as the dark horse.
Team spokesmen refused to speculate on the situation. “Don Smith is a fine young pitcher,” said GM Ron Collins. “So obviously we’d love to have him. But I think it’s a little presumptuous to be discussing playoff rotations.” Collins continued to discuss the price tag would be high and that there could be intensive competition. "With new leadership in the Des Moines chair, you're never sure what to expect."
The deflections don’t seem to be taking, however. And flames have perhaps been fanned by comments from the Nine GM on a recent All-Star selection edition of the BBA Today podcast wherein he noted the inclusion of Don Smith on the roster was partially “because I’m biased after Smith made it clear he wanted to be in Yellow Springs.”
“It all adds up to mean we’ve got a wedge in the game,” one poster said. “So write it down, baby!”
