“Jose is one of the cornerstones of our organization,” said GM Ron Collins. “It makes me thrilled to look our fans in the eye and tell them that Dogface is going to be in the mix for as long as he wants to be.”
The hard-throwing lefty is 129-83, 3.48 on his career, including a well-deserved Nebraska award in 2029. He lost a season to a Tommy John surgery, but has bounced back and continues to pair with Lawrence Columbus LaLoosh to lead the team’s rotation. “It’s great having two stoppers,” Collins said.
NINE FOR LIFE
Nine for life! #33 #YNOT #YS9 – thanks to all the fans Chavez said on social media after the signing. Hope Crash and Mr. Manning join me, he followed with, noting that LaLoosh and Lucas McNeill, two additional stalwarts, will have contract decisions coming. And my DDB buddies, too.
Fans ate it up, creating s rush on season tickets, which is just what the team was hoping. It’s a business after all, someone has to cash in on all these good feelings.
DEATAILS RELEASED
The contract will pay Chavez $12M a season, slowly dropping to $10M by year six. The last season is a vesting option that is dependent upon Chavez reaching 160 innings, a number both parties clearly hope will happen.
