The Bishop scout team quickly got to work on who they may be able to snag via the Rule 7 draft for compensation on losing Hoffman. There were a number of options available on the Kernel non-40 roster and one name kept appearing on everyone’s list.
SP Edgardo Burin
Burin was originally a draft pick by Paris out of college and was in the Paris system for 4 seasons. He got a cup of coffee with the big league team in 2020 and saw action in 12 games, posting a 4.15 ERA and putting up decent stats. Paris sent him down to AAA the next season and then released him. Huntsville is always one to scour the available players and they signed Burin to a minor league deal in the states. He did fairly well in AAA Carolina (22-20, ~3.50 ERA) and was included in a package deal for a trade to des Moines for stud reliever Reynaldo Garza.
London plans on using Burin as a key lefthanded starter in their lineup. He has decent speed (93-95) on his pitches and throws 3 decent pitches, also having a 4th pitch that is a fairly weak changeup. He has decent stamina and is a groundball pitcher. His ratings suggest he is slightly above average but the Bishops hope that he can transfer over to Europe and have some success for the team.
