Oh yeah. I'm the one gaming the system by signing Tatlock for 4 Million to be my backup catcher to protect my revenue. Meanwhile Ron spends 600 PP a year to max out his cash, max out his coaches, increase work ethic and INT to every semi prospect in his system, studies the games software to find loop holes and lobbied for no less then 4 rule changes to help him in his 7 year rebuild.

Obviously Lolololo >> Shepperson, but that is short-sighted. I miscalculated my finances when I agreed to the trade, but I'm still ok with it. I like Grasia and think he will be a great pitcher with several years of team control and frees up space to sign another player to an extension. Problem is, I'm not sure who that player will be, but likely Yen and Calderon.

My apologies for starting the discussion on FI and it's heavy influence from signing popular players. I should clarify I don't see anything wrong with playing the game as the game was made. I don't see acquiring players for the FI boost as gaming the system, just as I don't see Ron's heavy PPT expenditures as gaming the system. Both are within the ruleset laid down in front of us. It's why I love it here in the BBA. Everything is open hand/open knowledge. What we are presented with is the same for every GM.ae37jr wrote: ↑Fri May 23, 2025 3:57 pmOh yeah. For my part, I both used the FI system to my benefit (like Ted telling me to always extend popular players to a year contract instead of letting them go to arbitration .. an easy thing to do and it's heavily rewarded in the game engine and I used it heavily in SAC to keep my FI crazy high) and spent plenty off PPT to push my success with the Popes. When I joined the league and took over the then California Crusaders from Ted, he sent me an extremely helpful and very pleasant email on his strategies, like the one above, to keep the financial gears running. The financial side of the game is my least favorite, so his boost both in leaving me an incredibly financially healthy team along with the strategies to keep it that way was a welcome and needed addition for my quack experiments.
The rant I wrote as a comment on my own team news about not wanting to use the FI boost from signing players was not meant to place a demerit on anyone playing the game as it was built. It's smarter to sign those players. It's literally dumb not to. But its just another of my idealistic ways to make the game more fun for me. As everyone knows (or should by now), I despise homers (just play slowpitch softball already), so I wanted to prove I could build a team who was last in homers and still wildly successful (see 2053). I also dislike the way the game handles FI, so I want to try to prove an organization can still be successful by not utilizing it. Honestly, I'm not even the first GM I'd pick to try to prove this (I'd pick Chad or Ron or Alan or Recte or a bunch of other guys), and, anyway, it was already proven in Edmonton by Chris Roubillard.
In the end, it always goes back to Vic -- "the game is supposed to be fun."
