Lol. My whole pitching staff is going to be gone with the financial tweaks. I guess I have to listen to this and hope for some miracle advise.

Re: 2060 - Have Breakfast With Ron - Opt-outs
We are $24 million over the cap already so hopefully some of these guys opt out
I'd love to keep Gonzalez because he has been a very important inning eater for us. But someone is going to pay him a lot of money to be a mediocre starter. And Toku Yamashita because he has been with me since the beginning in Twin Cities and plays for the love of the game, not money.
Ramirez was a starter, but he didn't pan out well. I hope he goes. Bernie Stuart is slowly fading. But if he opts in for one more year, we should be alright.

Of the eleven I talked about, seven followed my suggestions. Three that did not were quite soft suggestions. The only big one that went against my view was Mas'ud bin Salah al Din. Not that surprising.

Re: 2060 - Have Breakfast With Ron - Opt-outs
Bin Salah Al Din would have been a fool to opt out. His contract would have automatically renewed at last year’s $4.5M salary rather than increase to $8.5M because he’s still six years away from being eligible for free agency. The only thing he sacrificed was a year of arbitration is likely already bought out.

I don't understand how he got a six year deal if he wasn't already through his five years in the GBC. Maybe I'm missing something.

Re: 2060 - Have Breakfast With Ron - Opt-outs
He wasn’t added to the 40-man roster four years after being drafted so he became a minor league FA.
The rules in the constitution only apply to extensions other than the six year maximum.

Re: 2060 - Have Breakfast With Ron - Opt-outs
Not saying this happened or that we need to do anything retroactively. And I'm afraid to even post this suggestion as a shitstorm usually follows but...
We probably should have some sort of rule in place. I figure it would be pretty easy to create a burner account, hide your IP, grab a GBC team, release your top prospects at an unsuspecting time, sign them to a contract like this, and carry on. That's some straight up Al Hoot shenanigans but you never know.
I'm going to shut up now, enjoy the comments, and I deny that I started it.

Re: 2060 - Have Breakfast With Ron - Opt-outs
Even then they’d be on the open market and if anybody else notices them you’re in a bidding war. The more sims they go without signing the higher the price goes as more teams notice.
I made an offer to bin Salah Al Din which helped drive up the price and force Sean to offer the six year ML contract. He didn’t look like such a sure thing two seasons ago and it looked risky for Sean but it’s worked out so far. He’s had similar contracts not work out.

Re: 2060 - Have Breakfast With Ron - Opt-outs
That's interesting. I wasn't aware that opting out of a major league contract signed prior to arbitration would simply leave you where you were last year. I am away that a player opting out of a sequence during arbitration allows that player to go through arbitration, though. So I guess that makes some sense.

Re: 2060 - Have Breakfast With Ron - Opt-outs
OK I guess I have to respond to this.
Al DIn was legally signed as an FA that anyone had access to. He did not come from my GBC team. He was on the open market.
He was signed to a 6 year deal because the 3 year rule quite expressly applies only to major league extensions of your own arb eligible players.
This was already complained about and already adjudicated to be completely legal.
So not sure why all the reactions now?
Are we gonna make another new rule based on something I did?
Come on.

Re: 2060 - Have Breakfast With Ron - Opt-outs
No issues here. The contract was fine and legal. I just didn't know how the opt-out would work, so I accidentally opened a can of bad worms.
Sorry about that. I wave the white flag.

Enjoyed the video btw, Ron. Thanks for posting it. I think you had your analysis of the other 10 players spot on.
