Image More details have leaked regarding a new home for the Boise Spuds. A development company has reportedly secured the bid to develop the new venue that will, indeed, replace the West Boise Fairgrounds if approved. The project will be funded with a mix of private and public funds. If replacing the fairgrounds, the ballpark would cover 4 acres with an additional seven acres of multi-use property. The private partnership is said to be revealed as the Boise Diamond Project (BDP) a group that reportedly includes a mix of Spuds ownership, other private parties, and corporate partnerships. Sources indicate that BDP will own the land and lease the stadium footprint to Ada County. For the first time rumors have also increased in volume that the Grigg family would bow out of owning the Spuds with a flat contribution to BDP funds on their way out. Reports a source, "The Grigg family has been willing to participate in the project for the purposes of securing their family legacy."

It is rumored that the project will completely replace the West Boise Fairgrounds at the corner of Schultz Boulevard and Glenwood Avenue which means it would, indeed, envelop the vejas toad habitat being adjacent to the Boise River over environmental concerns. In the deal, the county would fund a project to build a fairgrounds property elsewhere in unincorporated Ada County although it's not clear that it would include a new dirt track replacing the Chappelle facility. If the sources are shown to be correct, the stadium would be an open-air facility, although that would raise concerns about late winter/early spring and early fall temperatures and snowfall, seating over 40,000 fans.
