Damn. To say that the Spuds were humbled by Sim #7 is vastly understating the point. After losing a series in Austin, Charm City came to town and swatted the Spuds away like a gnat. Can Boise recover from this Sim and continue to press for a spot in the postseason. It's not likely, but the season is still young. They would need to dominate a month, however, to at least balance out the scale.
@ Austin Shredders 3-8 L SP Dan Boman (L) - 4.1 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 1 BB, 3 K
@ Austin Shredders 2-1 W SP Josh 'Kid' Clark (W) - 7.1 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K
CL Mario Santos (SV-5)
@ Austin Shredders 5-11 L SP Mahad 'Furball' Einan (L) - 2.0 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 3 BB, 0 K
With a 4-game series against Charm City looming, the Spuds needed to make hay while the sun shined against Austin. The Shredders are a squad also looking to cling to postseason hopes at this early date. That Boman stumbled in the early going allowing 3 runs before the 5th inning when he was dismissed after giving up 2 doubles and a single with the only out recorded being a sac fly. There was nothing the bullpen could do at that point and the offense was toothless (spoiler: that's going to be a theme here). Austin LF Jorge Herrera was a menace going 3-4 with 2 doubles and a HR. It was Josh Clark to the rescue in game #2 as the Boise ace tossed 7.1 innings of shutout ball allowing only 7 hits and striking out 6. The "just enough" offense was powered by 3 stolen bases from 1B Tracy Allison. Austin SP Harry Bransington put a strangehold on the Spuds offense allowing just 2 runs in 7 innings. Santos covered 1.2 innings seeing out the game for his 5th save of the year. The rubber game was decided quickly with Austin putting up 6 runs on Furball Einan in 2 innings. The bullpen was not that atrocious but still could not put the breaks on an Austin offense that featured 3 RBI from LF Luis Rúbio and 2B Bill Irvine.
v Charm City Jimmies 1-4 L SP Thomas Turner (L) - 2.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 0 K
v Charm City Jimmies 1-4 L P Buddhapalita Kankipati (L) - 5.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 4 BB, 6 K
v Charm City Jimmies 0-1 L Boman (L) - 7.0, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K
The Spuds next limped back to Boise to face the Atlanic division-leading Charm City Jimmies. The first 3 games of the 4-game series were defined by a complete collapse of the Boise offense. Charm City SP John Mellon allowing only 1 unearned run in 6.1 innings of work. Thomas Turner did have to leave the game in the 3rd inning from back spasms that will sideline him from his next turn in the rotation. Another close affair in the 2nd game was highlighted by Jimmies SP Allen Davidson allowing just 1 run in 7.1 innings. Buddhapalita Kankipati allowed just 3 runs, but it was enough while the Boise offense remained woeful. Boman was stellar in the 3rd affair going 7 innings allowing just 1 unearned run on 5 hits. But that unearned run was enough as Charm City SP Jorge Nava scattered 3 hits in shutting out the Spuds over 8 innings.
