After a sizzling 20-8 June, Boise balanced the scales with a 7-19 July. So, of course, the Spuds were almost perfectly mediocre in August going 13-16. They did get swept by Rocky Mountain on the road but split most of their other series including a 4-game set in Vegas. The offense maintained a steady pace scoring 5.1 runs per game. Unfortunately, pitching kept its steady pace as well giving up 5.6.
SPUDS OF THE MONTH - AUGUST
Pitcher

P Robert Carlson
43 G, 11 GS, 5-4, 4.94 ERA, 118.1 IP, 1.48 WHIP, +1.2 WAR
True to form, the surprise best starter for the Spuds in August was SP Muneer bin Khairy. He held the 'Scary' bit at bay for the most part in the month with the only real black mark being a 12-1 defeat in Las Vegas where he was pounded for 13 hits and 8 runs in 5 innings. But he allowed no more than 2 ER in the remaining starts posting a 3-1 record in 6 starts going 36 innings allowing only 3 HRs and a 3.50 ERA. Reliever Gerald Rogers made 4 appearances in August tossing 8.2 innings of shutout ball while fanning 7. Versatile P Buddhapalita Kankipati stuck to the pen in August save a start to begin the month and another at the end. He allowed only 1 ER in the two starts comprising 9.2 innings with 12 strikeouts and 3 walks. His work out of the bullpen left him with a monthly ledger of 1-2 with 1 blown save in 19.2 innings while giving up 20 hits but fanning 16. But Carlson was rock-steady in the heat even getting in 3 consecutive starts in the middle of the month going 20.2 innings allowing just 14 hits and 6 walks. In 7 total games the righty was 1-0 with 30 innings pitched, only 1 HR allowed, and 2.4 K/BB.
Batter

LF Cosmo Pan
120 G, 29 2B, 4 3B, 16 HR, 63 RBI, .295/.360/.535, 3 SB, +3.3 WAR
August was the month where DH Perry Taylor asserted his hold on the full-time DH role slashing .314/.400/.729 with 2 doubles, 9 HR, and 23 RBI. Pedro Hozven didn't sulk too much driving in 12 with 6 doubles and 4 HR. Speaking of doubles, 1B Tracy 'Jigga' Allison delivered 9 of them to go with 2 triples and 2 HRs, though he slashed only .231/.289/.393 but he did add 13 stolen bases. LF Tsutomu Yamauchi used the double-heavy approach to drive in 17 runs with 8 double-baggers and a HR. But Pan unexpectedly stole the show posting a 1.047 OPS driving in 23 runs with 6 doubles, 3 triples, and 7 homers.
