Boise Spuds 60 75 .444 DIV -16 WC -10 L10: 3-7 Strk: L1

(y'all need to get you some Jackie Venson!)

What's this? Boise finishes the split of the road series in Vegas. They are now 6-4 with a 4-game homestand coming up in September.

@ Las Vegas 3-0 W SP Mahad 'Furball' Einan (W) - 6.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 6 K
P Brian Groves (SV-6) - 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
Every team has to have something to play for. Las Vegas has historically just dominated Boise since the Spuds founding. A winning season against the Hustlers would be a bright spot. And if it cost them a postseason spot. Woah. Anywho, Furball takes the mound again and plays the ace that he is tossing 6.1 innings of 1-hit, shutout ball walking 3 and fanning 6. Vegas SP Owen Geddes matched him on the scoreboard just giving up 6 hits and walking none. So it came down to the pen. Boise P Abban 'Eeyore' Layar secured the hold and Groves came in the to grab another save with Mario Santos still on the bench with a blister. The Spuds put up 1 run in each of the last 3 innings against Vegas middle relief to get out of Sin City with the split.

@ Austin 5-8 L P Robert Carlson (ND) - 7.0 IP, 6 H, 6 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 6 K
@ Austin 6-7 L P Ken Sproul (ND) - 6.0 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
@ Austin 5-6(11) L SP Doug Eckhoff (ND) - 1.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 3 K
@ Austin 9-2 W SP Muneer 'Scary' bin Khairy (W) - 9.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 5 K
The Spuds stayed on the road traveling down to Austin, TX. The opening game of the series was decided when Carlson surrendered 3 runs in the 3rd on 2 walks, a double, and a single. Austin added 4 in the 8th to make it look worse than it was, but still not what to expect from Carlson. Shredders 2B Félix Cabral was 4-4 on the evening with 2 doubles and 2 RBI, but Spuds DH Pedro 'Pocket Rocket' Hozven actually topped him, though, going 4-4 with 2 HR and 2 RBI. Ken Sproul continued his solid work out of the rotation in the 2nd game logging 7 innings, but it came down to a 6-6 tie in the bottom of the 9th. Austin 1B Brent 'Spork' Gilbert delivered the walkoff single off Boise lefty Michael Gautier. The 3rd match looked like it was going to be a shootout as Boise put up 2 in the 1st and Austin answered with 4. But things settled down and the game went into extra frames tied at 5. In the 11th, Austin C Ángel Gutiérrez delivered the game-winning single in the 2nd consecutive walkoff of the series off Groves who had given up a double just before to 3B Socrates 'The Philosopher' Kazantziakis. Boise came out to avoid the sweep in the finale and 'Scary' bin Khairy was just done with watching losses. He tossed a 9-inning, 2-run complete game gem allowing 6 hits and striking out 5. Spuds LF Tsutomu Yamauchi posted 3 RBI on the night.

v Calgary 5-13 L Einan (L) - 2.2 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 3 K
Looking to build off the sweep-avoiding win the night before, Boise hosted Calgary and sent ace Einan to the bump. But 'Furball' got uncharacteristically shelled going only 2.2 innings giving up 8 hits and 5 runs. Middle relief was just as ugly for the Spuds but the matter was decided. Pioneers RF Michael Little went 3-6 driving in 3 RBI and posting a homer.
