Boise Spuds 65 71 .478 DIV -22 WC -6 L10: 8-2 Strk: W6

Boise hadn't had an undefeated Sim all season until #20. Now they've had 2 in the last 3. Just in time to ruin the Spuds draft position. But it is always refreshing to see a nice '0' in the loss column. They were in sync in Sim #22 with the offense scoring just as much as it needed to match the pitching.

v Phoenix 6-4 W P Juan Guzmán (W) - 29 G, 12 GS, 5-3, 2 SV, 4.46 ERA, 103.0 IP, 1.33 WHIP, +1.0 WAR
CL Mario Santos (SV-18) - 41 G, 2-7, 22 SV, 4.23 ERA, 44.2 IP, 1.48 WHIP, +0.3 WAR
v Phoenix 3-1 W SP Mahad 'Furball' Einan (W) - 27 G, 27 GS, 8-7, 4.06 ERA, 159.2 IP, 1.23 WHIP, +1.6 WAR
Santos (SV-19)
v Phoenix 3-1 W SP Doug Eckhoff (W) - 27 G, 24 GS, 7-10, 4.92 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, +0.5 WAR
Santos (SV-20)
v Phoenix 8-4 W SP Jeremy Nickerson (W) - 26 G, 19 GS, 4-5, 4.91 ERA, 121.0 IP, 1.39 WHIP, +0.4 WAR
P Jack McNeil (SV-2) - 22 G, 3-1, 2 SV, 5.40 ERA, 38.1 IP, 1.33 WHIP, -0.9 WAR
- Boise booked a home sweep of the Talons who were even with the Spuds in the standings coming into the series.
- The offense produced just as much as needed scoring 3 in two games where the Spuds gave up 1 run, and 6 & 8 when they have up 4. And it was a mysteriously strong bullpen performance as all 4 games saw Boise put up most of their runs in the middle innings...but soon enough to secure wins for all 4 Boise starting pitchers.
- Phoenix will rue the 2nd game of the series as the Spuds had to score late, 3 runs in the 8th, to win. This while Furball pitched a 2-hit shutout with 7 Ks. Talons SP Arthur Dunn watched a 6 inning, 1-hit outing vanish in an 8th inning where the bullpen gave up 3 walks and a bases-clearing double.
- All 4 games saw at least one Spuds hitter log more than 1 RBI including 1B José Montoya's 3 in the opener and another 3 from RF Martin Hemming the following night.

@ Mexico City 5-2 W SP Muneer bin Khairy (W) - 27 G, 13 GS, 3-7, 1 SV, 4.45 ERA, 113.1 IP, 1.30 WHIP, +0.0 WAR
Santos (SV-21)
@ Mexico City 2-0 W Guzmán (ND)
Santos (SV-22)
-The Spuds were 7-3 vs Mexico City coming into the Sim making the Aztecs one of the few teams not to munch on mashed potatoes at Boise's expense.
- Can we just pause to point out how dominating Spuds CL Santos was this Sim? 5 saves in 6 games. Considering a day of rest in there, he was flat out dominant.
- In the opener of the series, Boise yet again sidestepped the bullpen with not-so-scary-this-time bin Khairy allowing only 3 hits and 1 run in 8 innings of work. The offense left it for late this time with another big inning thanks to a grand slam from LF Tsutomu Yamauchi off Aztecs P Richard Lawrence in the 7th.
- Spuds' Guzmán weaved another beauty in the finale going 6.1 innings allowing 3 hits and fanning 7. For those who follow the lefty (i.e., us) this is either an extremely welcome sign or space of fortune. In any case it was needed as Mexico City SP Dave 'Burner' Corfield hurled a shutout of his own allowing just one hit. It's a shame that P Guo-dong Cong was responsible for 2 runs in the 8th and 9th that decided a pitchers' duel.
