Sim #20 (recap) proved the Boise bats DO have a pulse. And the starting pitching in the Sim was excellent. 7.8 runs/game is a huge flex. It can't be sustained but it sure looks damn fine. As for pitching, 3.5 r/g provides plenty of wiggle room for when the offense comes back to Earth. Enjoy it now, Spuds fans, as Las Vegas lurks on the horizon.

SPUDS OF THE SIM - SIM #20

Pitcher

P Juan Guzmán
26 G, 9 GS, 4-3, 2 SV, 4.92 ERA, 82.1 IP, 1.37 WHIP, +0.6 WAR
All about the starters in Sim #20 as they were going 6-8 innings per turn which makes life easy on the bullpen. Having said that, P Brian Groves converted 2 save opportunities filling in for CL Mario Santos, and P Baz Badr, claimed off waivers from Yellow Springs last month, tossed 3.1 innings of shutout ball over 2 games. SP Jeremy Nickerson needs to step it up because 'Groucho' Winston is on his rehab assignment in AAA Salt Lake City, and he had a good outing in Sim #20 allowing just 2 earned runs in 7.1 innings...but he walked 4 hitters which is creating unforced runners to navigate. SP Mahad 'Furball' Einan had one start and made it a 1-run outing with 6 innings. But, sure, Guzmán hasn't proven to be 100% reliable as a starter but he can come up with starts like the one against Austin on the 10th. One run over 8 innings allowing just 5 hits and that'll get the job done.

Hitter

1B José Montoya
103 G, 18 2B, 3 2B, 23 HR, 71 RBI, .276/.318/.514, 4 SB, +1.6 WAR
Whoo, boy!! Let's start with the great before we turn our sights to the dominant. RF Martin Hemming slashed .409/.409/.909, hit 2 doubles, 3 HR, drove in 5 runs, and it still wasn't enough to top Sim #20. 3B Bill Kuhn delivered 2 doubles and 2 HRs driving in 7 runs. Here's where it gets really fun. 1B Pedro 'Pocket Rocket hit 6 home runs in this one week delivering 10 RBI. But we're going to go with Montoya who also posted 10 RBI but slashed .429/.467/1.000 with 5 HR and 1 doubles.
