It was coming. We all saw it coming. In fact, we see more of it coming. The Spuds have spent most of the season only $500k below the $115M salary cap. Even more telling, that salary was the 4th highest in the BBA. All for results that were, um, not the 4th highest in the BBA. So when Long Beach GM Stephen Lane came knocking about a player with a significant salary, Teague was listening. The Spuds wound up shipping 35yo lefty reliever Quirke Roddis to the west coast getting 18yo prospect P Aamir Arain. Roddis was a free agency signing prior to the season and was 2-2 with 4 saves, 4.05 ERA, and 1.35 WHIP in 19 games with the Spuds. The 35yo has a career ERA of 3.04 and WHIP of 1.11. His contract pays him $5.7M in 2060 and 2061. Arain is a young starter with solid intangibles who just needs innings at this point in his career.

Spuds Top Prospect Grigore Out for the Year at Short-A Hot Springs
A week ago we at The Times published a high-level look at Boise pitching prospects. Number one on the list was 19yo lefty SP Cosmin 'Horrible' Grigore and as The Times checked in, he checked out. To the IL that is. On the 18th of June Grigore had surgery to remove bone chips in his elbow and, with recovery expected to take 4 months, he'll sit out the remainder of 2061. The 1st round pick by Boise in the 2060 draft has been plagued by day-to-day injuries and short stints to the IL. He'll wrap up 2061 having gone 0-1 in 4 starts with a 2.35 ERA and 0.98 WHIP over 15.1 innings. Grigore joins the Spuds #2 pitching prospect 19yo SP Pat Perkins to the IL after he underwent the same procedure on the 17th of April.
