The Morning Glory 2061.03: B2B Pitcher of the Month

Post by bcslouck » Wed Dec 11, 2024 12:48 pm

The Oysters have won JL Pitcher of the Month back to back months with Ken Steele winning in June and Denny Tabb winning in July.

Steele, a first time All-Star this year, had a rough July himself but was fantastic in June. He made 5 starts going 4-0 with a 1.32 ERA through 34 innings. While he walked 15 batters, the most of any month, he only allowed 22 hits, the least of any month. His 29 K's in June was the 2nd of 3 months in a row hitting that mark. With over 2/3 of his starts going down as quality starts, Steel should get close to 200 innings this year. That would be a first for him and break his current career high of 182 innings which he pitched in 2056. His peripherals don't quite match his overall numbers but he's having a very nice season for a team who's pitching has struggled.

Another pitcher not struggling is Tabb. He hasn't struggled much over the last few years, becoming their most consistent SP. He has his best month in July, pitching to a 2.25 ERA through 36 innings in 5 starts. He struck out 38, by far his best month mark this season. His record was also 4-0. Tabb eclipsed 200 innings last year for the first time and is on track to do so again. While not putting out quality starts at the rate of Steele, he still does it more than 50% of the time and tends to pitch deeper into games even when not having his best stuff. He has had quality starts in 8 of his last 10 starts. He also appears to have another 3+ WAR season. This would be his 3rd straight, firmly establishing himself at the Oysters go to guy to eat solid innings when the team needs it.

It's been said on and off for years now with this group of starters but the organization is really hoping these guys can lead them going forward. While Tabb has turned into a consistent mid-rotation SP, Steele along with Aaron Stevens and Edgar Chavez have all had up and down careers and have appeared to be the guy at different times. But have never been able to get on the same page and be the pitching the Oysters need.

I'd consider Tabb a solid #2 myself.

I assume you'll strongly consider reliever converting Chavez next offseason. Would be a monster.
