The Morning Glory 2060.05: Recapping Shepperson's Historic Season

Post by bcslouck » Thu Oct 03, 2024 2:48 pm

After a strong rookie campaign after making the jump from the GBC, Max Shepperson took a giant leap as one of the game's most dangerous hitters.

We'll start with some of the club records he set:
-0.776 Slugging
-1.193 OPS
-57 Home Runs.

These records have beaten out some great players in current Oyster Malik bin Mazin and former Oysters Resurrection Santos, Hector Cano Jr., and HOF Alex Ramirez. bin Mazin has the former Slugging (0.697) and OPS (1.118) records set in 2058. Cano was the former HR Champ of the Oysters with 54 over the fence back in 2051.

Some of those numbers also put him in with some of the All-Time greats. His Slugging Percentage puts him 2nd All-Time in a Single Season behind Long Chamberlain's 1986. That year, Chamberlain slugged 0.786 en route to his still Single Season Record of 73. Shepperson's 1.193 OPS is also 2nd All-Time in a Single Season only behind the league's most tragic figure Manuel Aguilar. His 1.206 OPS in 2003 was in a year he set the batting average record hitting 0.413 and belting over 50 HR's. He was the league's first offensive Triple Crown Winner. As many know, diving for a ball in 2004 Spring Training, Aguilar suffered a career ending injury that left many to wonder what if.

Shepperson put up one of the greatest offensive season's in league history without much notice. He probably won't win the Silk, especially after the Oysters fell flat on their faces down the stretch. But they'd be in a much worse position had he not had the break out he had. After a phenomenal career in the GBC, he's upped his game and now looks to be one of the premier powers hitters in the BBA with an eye toward becoming one of the All-Time greats.

*EDIT: Looked for the Aguilar article but couldn't find it. Pretty sure I got what happened right but that was long before my time here. If someone wants to link it below, feel free.

I didn’t fully appreciate just how special his season was. Glad you contextualized it.
