The Morning Glory 2061.02: All Star Weekend

Post by bcslouck » Tue Dec 10, 2024 1:21 pm

The Oysters have been mediocre in 2061 but managed to send 3 players to the All-Star game and 1 to the All-Star Futures Game.

3B Juan Carmona was invited to the Futures Game. A 5th round pick in 2060, his prospect status skyrocketed, going from unraked to #46 in the preseason rankings. The hype has calmed some has he's dropped to #93 in the mid-season rankings. After holding his own in Anchorage last year, the organization opted to have him repeat the level and the results are better. He sports a 109 OPS+ through 45 games with 7 HR's. 'Nuke' projects to be a corner IF with some pop.

SP Ken Steele was selected to his 1st All-Star game after winning JL Pitcher of the Month in June. Steele is 12-4 with 3.36 through most of July. His numbers were stronger before July but this month hasn't been kind to him. His peripherals suggest he could keep struggling. With an up and down career to this point, the organization is hoping this year is the turn they've been waiting for.

SS Lucio Guevara has made his 2nd straight All-Star. Last year was his first and he is the reigning Golden Bat winner at SS. A slow July has also made his numbers not look as strong. His bat overall is slightly below average but comes with his usual strong glove. Guevara is proving himself to be one of the better SS's in the league without much star power at the position.

The teams final All-Star was 1B Malik bin Mazin. bin Mazin is doing what he usually does. His OPS+ is 170 at the time of this writing along with 29 HR's. He leads the JL in total bases with 265. He's on pace to win another Golden Bat and compete for another Silk.

After sending 9 to the mid-Summer classic last year, only sending 3 is disappointing. But the team last year was much stronger than what we've seen on the field this year with rumblings that GM Brandon Slouck could be ready to strip this thing down.
