The Morning Glory 2059.02: bin Mazin been Amazin' (Again)

Post by bcslouck » Mon Jun 03, 2024 5:55 am

Reigning Johnson League Sawyer Silk winner Malik bin Mazin is having another monster season, emerging as one of the favorites to win the Silk in 2059.

Only one player outpaces him in WAR a little over a week into June. Division rival Aztecs 1B Marco Acheson leads the JL with 3.5 while bin Mazin is right on his heels at 3.3.

bin Mazin currently is toward the top of the JL in most offensive categories. A "slump" in the last week has knocked him off leading those categories but he still remains one of the most dangerous hitters in the BBA.

His hot April start continued into June, putting the Oysters into division contention up until the last week, going 1-7 at home against Charm City and Charlotte. His aforementioned slump probably has something to do with it, as he only OPS'd .608 in the last week. Meanwhile, the team gave up just under 5 runs a game in that stretch, better than their season average of 5.1.

With injuries and the team shifting toward improving the defense, bin Mazin has had to carry the offensive load even more. The last few years have proven that bin Mazen doesn't tend to stay down long and should keep carrying an offense that is solid but not as powerful as it once was.

37 year-old Acheson's almost set a career best WAR and it's June. The track record points in favor of bin Mazin.
