2034-13: Talons so far: The Ugly

Post by jiminyhopkins » Mon Apr 16, 2018 8:58 am

Some things for the Talons this year are worse than bad...

THE UGLY

1. Domenic Wyatt: Whats wrong with Domenic? A year after posting a near 4 war season with almost 30 homers and 60 steals, the erstwhile fan favorite Wyatt is hitting a horrific .175/.299/.337 in 250 at bats. Here's a guy making 11 million dollars and potentially under contract until 2037, and that has to be worrisome to the front office. As for war, that "stat" has him at a mere -0.1, which seems idiotic. Let's be honest, his defense and popularity are the only reasons he is still getting any sort of playing time.

2. The finances: The Talons spent money from the get go as an expansion team, counting on established stars to drive up fan interest and field a competitive squad from the get go. Its clear that hasn't been the correct path, as the club has posted a negative balance every year of their existence. The team had to give away prospect Drew Hair just to dump Harry Considine's contract, and that was just so that they wouldn't have to actually cut payroll next season. Even so, Phoenix has no hope of resigning SP Jose Trujillo, and will have to either accept a trade or draft pck compensation.

3. The franchise direction: Whats going on here anyway? The last five seasons have seen finishes of 5th, 6th, 6th, 7th, and 5th. The one chance they had of sneaking into the playoffs (2031) was botched when the team dealt away Rupert Grant too soon. Then came 2033's disasterous Carlton Winson trade. Not to mention giving away Feliciano Rafael. The list goes on. Not long ago, the club had a top 5 farm team, but has since dropped to 13th as they have been forced to bring up prospects like Thad Meyer and Martin Marin too early to fill holes on the big club. Yeah, they are doing better this season. But is it for real? Past precedent suggests that it's not, and it seems no one knows how to right the ship.

Ugh. Go Talons?
