2063-004: Talons Shocked That Another BBA Team Actually Wanted to Trade For Someone in the Talons "Farm System"

No, that's not a line from Oliver Twist, at least not this time.

It all started back in the 2062 draft, where the Talons got auto'd in the most horrific way in the third round, with a guy who wanted a $7 million signing bonus. That started a massive and prolonged tantrum by the Talons Reclusive GM, which led to a trade and participation "boycott" that lasted until the end of the Brewster Series. In a particularly childish move, the Talons did not in fact punt the pick, but signed him, just because, costing the team $6.5 million.

But that's not the half of it. We'll let Talons scouting director Schytt E. Pyck explain further.

"So this guy starts bugging us about Jabir Jawhar. Like, a lot. We actually had to look the guy up, just to make sure that, as one of the 17 GM's for Montreal, he was actually authorized to make deals."

"He was legit tho. We tried to slow walk the guy, hoping he'd lose interest, but as soon as trading opened back up after the Monty, the guy comes calling again, saying he likes Jawhar as a 1B prospect. So I look at his system, and he literally has DOZENS of 1B prospects. Then we look at the farm rankings. 32nd overall. So even if we wanted to deal this Jawhar guy, there's no one they could give back befitting a 10 rated power guy. And, like every other team in this godforsaken league, they wouldn't even budge on a SS prospect."

"So I kind of rolled my eyes. What's the game here? Does he see something we don't? I mean, yeah, probably. But still. So we end up asking the guy for cash just so he'll go away. We managed to get back half of the signing bonus from last season. So that's good. Because, we already have some great 1B's like Choppa and Perez. But what we don't have is cash, even the reduced stadium fees still put us in the red this offseason."

"Anyway. done deal. They have a 24th first baseman prospect, and we have a few mil that we will probably blow on some IFA that will lump to nothing in 6 months. Everybody's happy!" Pyck said.

Bob Breum responded, "To be fair, not all of my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are part of the business, but we do try to keep it in the family. We have just the two GMs but I am very proud of the progress that my progeny have made as associate GMs and assistant GMs. I believe that it gives us a competitive edge but I can see how it could be confusing to an outsider."
