Raul Gallegos seen celebrating Geoghegan win
It was a bizarre scene inside the Twin Cities clubhouse following the teams 3 games to 1 victory over the Vancouver Mounties in the Geohegan series. No, it wasn't the sight of grown men wearing swim goggles and pouring champagne and beer over themselves that seemed odd.. that has become the norm. It was the apparel worn by the River Monsters that drew the attention of sports media covering the celebration.
The official playoff t-shirts of the BBA have a theme this year. It's the winning teams logo and colors with the phrase "we're hunting.." followed by the inclusion of the losing teams mascot. In this case it would be the Mounties.
Yet for some strange reason, the River Monsters were wearing the t-shirt that would signify them beating the Nashville Bluebirds. Was this a simple error by a young kid trying to make a buck? Or does this further support the theory that Twin Cities is infatuated with beating the Bluebirds. Something they have yet to be able to do. As the celebration continued, the answer became clear.
First came a Bluebird pinata. Gallehos, Mathew Malone, Randall Grey, Felix Ramos and some mystery player all took a hack at it.
then they played darts....
....and umm... they took turns pretending to fornacate and choke a midget dressed in a bluebird costume?
They ended with Octavio Sanchez aka "Dirty Sanchez" giving the Bluebird a swirlie.
Well, I think the message is clear. This is not the work of some absent minded clubbie. The River Monsters clearly have just one thing on their mind. With the Doubleday Series headed to Sacramento... will the teams preoccupation with Nashville continue to motivate them? Or are the wheels about to come off the wagon much like this team news did? I guess we will find out Tuesday night. Let's go River Monsters. Beat the Blu.. I mean Mad Popes.
