2062.9 Lighter Shade of Gray

Lighter Shade of Gray
By all accounts, Twin Cities Shortstop Randall Gray has had a career worst season. His average, OBP, Slugging %, and WAR are all low spots on his record. What the back of the baseball card doesn't show is that he has been playing with a sprained elbow since May 21st. His ability to "post up" has been admirable. As we know, shortstop production around the league is extremely hard to find. So while he is not the 4-5 Win player he has been, Gray is still on pace for 3.4 WAR. Much higher than what they would get from a replacement.

The team is said to be extremely pleased with his "warrior" mentality. But with recovery still unknown, there may be some worries that this lingering injury could lead to bigger problems or perhaps even make him become "fragile". Grey will not make the trip to Vancouver this week as a precautionary measure. The hope is that with only 4 games in the next 8 days, it will give him maximum rest with minimal down time. Niaz Minhas will get the start while Pat Currie has been called up as defensive depth. Healthy or not, Grey is expected to rejoin the team after the all star break.
