Twin Cities finally hits on a lottery ticket
At some point in every season, BBA teams try to peddle off some AAAA player on another team to get what's called a "lottery ticket". It doesn't really matter who they get, it's just important to reset the clock on that asset and maybe the next guy will be that one in a million that hit.
Wayne Burr was a throw in back in 2055 when the River Monsters acquired RP David Prigent. He, himself was a lottery ticket of sorts. A high movement pitcher with very hittable stuff. Maybe a velocity gain would make him a player. It was not to be though. After 2 seasons in the system, Burr was shipped to Yellow Springs for a 30 Potential RP named Jorge Duran.
Duran was just 5/5/5 potential at the time of the trade. The River Monsters felt that his currents(4/4/4) for a player that just turned 17 might put him into a position for success. At the very least, he'd help our minor league teams win. That he did, winning the Spike Nolan Championship in 2060 and the Charlie Pegler in 2061.
On a personal level, Duran was mostly lights out, minus a dreadful 2059 season. How did he rebound from that season... by saving 20 games and not giving up a run(earned or unearned) the entire season. Despite all that personal and team success, Duran was stuck as at 5/5/5 . A late season bump to movement and control caused the River Monsters to add him to the 40 man roster on the eve of the Rule 5 Draft. Since then he has exploded up to 7/7/7(8/7/7 VS RHB) and 60 POT.
Duran is now a lock to make the team and at 21 years of age, and should be considered the heir apparent to Peter Fuller as closer for the teams next run.
