Charm City 2062.10 - Retirement and the Return of the Insider
Barrera Announces 2062 Will Be His Last:
In the world of baseball, Manuel Barrera of the Charm City Jimmies said he feels "over the hill."
So at age 40, the reliever has announced that he will call it a career at year's end.
"There's always someone younger coming up behind you and in my case there aren't really any people older, so it's time to get out," he said.
Barrera has run up these career stats so far: 85 wins, 126 losses, 979 appearances, 507 saves, 1441.1 innings pitched, 1232 strikeouts and a 3.92 ERA.
The Insider:
Look for Dallas Sly to get the majority of the reps in center field moving forward versus RHP. Management hoped Dennis Armitage
would be able hit decent enough to warrant the starting job, but he's struggled since being acquired from Des Moines. Management does anticipate going back to Armitage next season as it is expected to see the two battle for the starting job in spring training.
Izz al Din bin Riyad has been benched. It's expected that James Darvell will get the bulk of the starts at 3B the rest of the way, but there have been reports that the Jimmies management would love to trade for an upgrade at 3B. Another pair of options are 2062 first round pick Manny Labarca and Alan Hedges. Managment thinks Labarca is BBA ready with the bat, but they worry about his weak arm. While with Hedges they feel his bat could play at the BBA level, but feel he needs more seasoning in the minors.
With Manual Barrera announcing that 2062 will be his last the Jimmies would like to see him save 2 more games to move into 5th on the All Time list; however, with the division being as close as it is don't be surprised to see them pull the plug on Barrera in the closer role before seasons end if he starts to struggle again. Two names mentioned as possible replacements have been Miguel Reyes and Seung-jin Cho. Management is seen to be leaning towards Reyes as they covet the innings Cho can provide in the middle and setup relief roles.
There were a few eyebrows raised when the Jimmies traded Keith Jahnke to Mexico City, but not many of them were raised inside Old Bay Park at Camden Yards. The eyebrows that were raised were surprised because they were able to move Jahnke. Since his 2060 All Star appearance Jahnke has lost a step that has cost his a lot of his value at the centerfield position. He was a -10.1 ZR just 2 seasons after posting a +11.6 mark in 2060. Management was poised to nontender him and were actually considering designating him for assignment to make room for Patrick Rosales. When the trade was agreed to the Jimmies were reportedly giddy as Todd Early was a target the team had circled prior to the 2062 draft and were going to select him if available in the 4th round. They see him as a Hollis O'Hara type who could be an elite defensive catcher whose defense will make up for any short comings with the bat. Alfredo Rosario looks like a player who was born to be a member of the Charm City franchise because management expects him to develop into a super utility type player and bounce all over the field.
Rumors swirled that Bane McCoy was almost traded to an unnamed team.
Expect to see an extension given out to Rannal Seldon before free agency starts. Managment has been very happy with the job he's done in the long relief role and they know he can step into the rotation if needed.
The Jimmies want to bring back Kazunari Chikafuji, but Chikafuji is reportedly asking for a 6 year extension. The length of his request is what has stopped a deal from getting done. Charm City is reportedly willing to go 4 years max, but not 6 years.

25 is kind of crazy with the development, but young players have been known to not perform after the league figures them out. I’m more disappointed about Jahnke losing a step which hurt his value in CF.BaseClogger wrote: ↑Mon Mar 24, 2025 11:40 amv25 strikes again with Izz al Din bin Riyad.

Yeah but to me the league "figuring them out" should result in slightly worse statistical production with the same ratings. The league figuring you out shouldn't change your base talent IMO. Jahnke's seems more realistic to me since guys lose a step in center field at various ages.DaveB wrote: ↑Mon Mar 24, 2025 11:46 am25 is kind of crazy with the development, but young players have been known to not perform after the league figures them out. No mention of Bergheimer but he could actually be decent for you the rest of the way. He just wasn't good for me for whatever reason

I’d keep him around, but I don’t have the space on the active or 40 man roster.

I'm sure you could have did some roster gymnastics to keep him around a couple more sims till roster expansion. Just break Brandon's dreams and say a pitcher like that has no place in Charm City.

Re: Charm City 2062.10 - Retirement and the Return of the Insider
I liked Hedges when I drafted him, but if memory serves, he was an "impossible" and rejected my "take a swing" offer which was probably 500K or maybe a bit higher. I think that was before S+ added signability so if I was at work, I couldn't know he didn't want us.
Oh well.
Oh well.
