Charm City 2062.7 - Jimmies Promote Catcher Reyes

Post by DaveB » Wed Feb 26, 2025 11:22 am

The Jimmies today announced that they have promoted 2061 first round selection Edgardo Reyes from AAA Annapolis. "When Reyes fell to us last year in the draft we were very surprised. I mean here's a guy who probably could've stepped right into the majors and been successful. We wanted him to get used to pro ball and actually started him with Annapolis last year and we were impressed by the results." said Assistant GM Chris Bennett. The results indeed were there for Reyes in his pro debut he slashed an impressive .327/.398/.483/.882 with 10 home runs and 52 RBI in 85 games for the Sailers. Reyes was invited to spring training with the big league team this year batting .300 with an OPS of .764 in 40 at bats. "I knew I wasn't going to make the team out of spring training. Management told me of their plans for me last year after drafting me. The plan was always to start at Annapolis in 2061, spring training invite in 2062 to get my feet wet and get to know my teammates, and if everything goes well a promotion to Charm City at some point in 2062. Spring training really helped me realize that I belong in the bigs and I'm excited to help my teammates out" said an excited Edgardo Reyes.

After being demoted to AAA to start the year Reyes continued his performance hitting .357/.448/.450/.898 slash line with 2 home runs and 29 RBI. In May he really pushed hitting an absurd .475/.549/.576/1.126 slash line. Bennett added "We were hoping to get him basically a year of minor league at bats by keeping him in Annapolis until June, but he really showed he's ready for the majors with his impressive May."

To make room for Reyes the Jimmies demoted Max Heregger to Annapolis and intend on sliding Joselito Hernandez to the backup catcher role.

"It's something because a few seasons ago I didn't think we had much depth at the catcher position throughout the minors and now we've got 4 players who are BBA players in Reyes, Heregger, Hernandez, and Yano. We've also got some players in the lower levels of the minor league system and international fields that we're quite excited about" said Bennett.
