TN 61.01 Shredders Drop Two of Three to Open Season....Wait 'til Next Year!

It’s hard to say how the 2061 Austin Shredders season will go….actually it’s not. I will most likely go horribly. The first series of the year for the Shredders was against the Las Vegas Hustlers and went as expected with the team dropping two of three at home. Opening Day was actually a nice win for the Shredders. Glenn Hargrove pitched outstanding, allowing just one run on five hits over eight innings. Brent Gilbert and Luis Rúbio pitched in with two hits apiece and Austin walked away with a 5-1 win. Game two was a heartbreaking 5-3 loss in 12 innings that was decided by a Czar Mamatulin home run with a man on in the top of the 12th off of Samir Qasim. Game three was a no brainer from the first inning as starter José Ávila last just 1/3rd of an inning ands giving up three runs before his day was done.

Highlights: Both Glenn Hargrove and Mus’ad Amr had perfectly good starts with Hargrove’s strong eight innings and Amr following that up by going into the eighth allowing one walking while striking out seven and giving up just two runs. If both of these guys can finally live up to their potential, happy days in Austin. Brent gilbert got off to a nice start with a .400 average and the teams only homer over the first three games.

Lowlights:: Jose Avila was atrocious, lasting just four batters in his first start of the year. Ray Hoskins also disappointed going just 1-12 to start the season. Hosking hit over.300 last year with 23 home runs and much is expected of him.

Front Office News – The Shredders extended the contract of their trainer Khaled bin Umair for 5 years at $455,000. Austin also extended AAA Hitting Coach Jose Ortiz for five years at $235,000 and recent Legends Gallery Inductee Stephen Collins III at 5 years, $110,000 per to be the hitting coach at SA La Paz.

Top of that Austin lineup should make some noise.
