Two-Way Phenom Gilbert Earns New Moniker (Hoppy Endings, pre FA 3 sim) [PP:2056.01]

Fellow teammates and Jackrabbits fans cannot stop raving about SP/1B Brent Gilbert. The 23-year-old was a big part of the magic that allowed the Single A Charlesbourg Castors to earn the first ever minor league championship in the history of the Edmonton organization.

It’s hard to understate Gilbert’s contributions. As a starting pitcher, he provided depth and quality in the rotation with a 10-8 record in 28 starts with a 3.97 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP. On his days off from pitching, he earned regular starts at 1B, DH, LF and RF. And no matter where appeared, he clobbered opposing pitchers as evidenced by a .346/.404./.561 line with 21 homers and 11 steals in just 376 at-bats.

Recently added to Edmonton’s 40-man roster as very obvious protection from the Rule V draft, critics are clamoring even more now for the nifty two-way prospect to be elevated to the BBA show. But GM Mike Bauer has yet to oblige.

“We believe that young players need some seasoning in AA or AAA before advancing to the majors,” affirmed Bauer. “It’s a principle we hold firm too. It’d be the same if Ty Cobb himself was in our farm system.”

Gilbert will get his chance in AA in 2056, and it remains to be seen how long Bauer can exercise his patience with this prodigy. Gilbert’s legend is growing fast, and he even earned the nickname “Spork” (referencing his ability to be very good at two different things) from content creators on the Internet. Expect another brilliant minor league campaign from Spork in 2056.
