According to sources, GM Mike Bauer summoned his coaching staff for an offseason planning meeting. A chief topic of those discussions is AAA RF Dean Procter.

Acquired in free agency after being released by GBC Athens in April 2055, Procter showed his aptitude in the A and AA levels for Edmonton. He compiled an astounding 1.249 OPS in A, while also managing .938 in AA. At only age 23, Bauer tabbed Procter to be a youthful replacement for departing lefty hitter Ricardo Mendoza.

With the team finding no hitters better for the role than Procter in the Rule V draft, it now seems that Procter is a favorite to make the final team presuming a satisfactory showing in spring training. If he does make the team, he may be due a $4.1 million bonus based on the majors/minors contract he agreed to last year.

Despite the large bonus, Bauer feels Procter is worth the “gamble”. Even if his staff doesn’t get his style of humor.

“We need to fill that additional corner outfield spot. I think it’s time to Gamble on Procter.”

The room remained quiet.

“Get it – Gamble on Procter? As in Proctor and Gamble?”

A few of the staff members began to check their watch and show disinterest.

“Geez tough crowd! Doesn’t matter! That’s the nickname I will file with the BBA offices. Get used to seeing a lot of him.”
