Red Light District 2025.7 - Midsummer Surge

July Review, Sim #11-12

Strong July Lifts Neptunes Into First

Led by the All-Star trio of CF Marceau Dubois, SS Russ Ray, and DH Edgardo Jaso, the Neptunes posted a 19-6 record in July, moving them into first place (57-43) in the Eastern Alliance by 0.5 games. It has been an up and down season so far for Amsterdam, with winning records in April and July, but playing sub-.500 ball in May and June. The latest upswing has pushed them slightly above the more consistent Brussels Eagles (57-44) who have posted winning records in each month of the season. By Pythagorean records, both teams are +1, with third place Rome even, and 4th place Munchen running into some bad luck at -3. With the season nearly 2/3 complete, it is shaping up to be a two team race between Brussels and Amsterdam. Over in the Western Alliance, the Belfast Northstars have maintained their lead over the London Bishops, currently up 6.5 as the calendar turns to August.

On 6 July, at home against the Bishops, the Amsterdam fans were treated to quite a show by SS Russ Ray as he came to the plate 6 times and banged out 5 hits, including 2 doubles. He also scored the game winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning. After a single up the middle, Ray advanced to second on 1B Tony Ortiz' sacrifice bunt. After teammates CF Marceau Dubois and DH Dave Stover drew walks (Dubois intentional), 3B Manny Silva came to the plate. Silva had been having a rough night so far, going 0-4 with one walk, and as it turns out, this AB was not going to be any easier. After taking two pitches outside of the zone, Silva fouled off the next two. Then came ball three, and with the full count, the crowd of 25.336 loyal Neptunes fans were on their feet screaming. The sixth pitch of the at bat was another foul ball, then another on the seventh pitch. On the eighth pitch of the AB, the 23 year old from Puerto Rico took ball four, and the Neptunes were winners on the walk off walk.

August Preview
The EBA attendance leaders (1.199.803) play only 10 games at home in the month of August. They open with 12 games in 13 days on the road, visiting Paris, London, Mardrid and Munich. They follow that with a seven game homestand against the Northstars and the Matadors. They face Brussels in what is sure to be a hard fought four game series on the road from 25-28 August.

Russ Ray... Blah, blah, blah. Hated rivalry brewing methinks.

Haha, well I believe Ray, Dubois and Jaso will be Rule 6 eligible for the first time this offseason and I think they all might be picked. Do you might not have to worry about Ray for a while after this season.

I'm putting together a Rule 6 preview and Ray/Jaso are definitely on there. However, Dubois won't reach 4 years of service this year, so he should be safe for another year.

Ahh you're right. That makes me fell a little better about next year then. Looking forward to your writeup!
