Red Light District 2025.5 - Neptunes Treading Water

Post by Lane » Tue Feb 09, 2016 8:36 pm

Sim #7 Recap

The Amsterdam Neptunes played 9 games from 1/6/2025 through 10/6/2025 going 4-5 to drop their season record to 30-29 (Pythagorean 30-29). They now stand 2.5 games behind the Brussels Eagles (32-26, Pyth 31-27) and in a virtual tie with the Rome Raiders (31-30, Pyth 31-30).

Schedule Highlights Lowlights

For the second time in 2 weeks they were swept in a 3 game set against the Brussels Eagles, being outscored 16-4. Amsterdam had a real chance to take the first game of the series as they lost 1-0 behind a strong complete game effort by Bob Latrobe who allowed only 1 run on 4 hits with 4 Ks and no BB over 8 innings. The offense was shut down by 8 innings of shutout work from Brussels starter Ron Robert and closer Iestin Pilgrim. Amsterdam lost another one run game in the second game of the series before collapsing in a 12-2 beatdown in the final game. Recently acquired LHP Steve Gould was the unfortunate victim allowing 7R (3ER) on 6 hits over 2.2 innings. Ted 'Gallows' Zeppelin took an even worse beating allowing 5R all earned on 4 hits and 1 walk over 2.2 innings. The 29 year old reliever also somehow managed to allow 2 home runs; rumor has it that Zeppelin may be in line for a demotion despite his solid 7/5/5 ratings including his 8 fastball.

In happier news from this sim, the Neptunes swept the Rome Raiders and split the first two games of a 3 game set against the Munchen Brauers.

Transaction News

Lost RP Antonio Ramos off waivers to Munchen. Was also claimed by London and Brussels. Maybe he should have been shopped around. Nevertheless it is unlikely that Ramos will be missed.

Looking Forward

On 11/6/2025 the Neptunes play the rubber game at home against the Brauers. That game is followed by an off day before hosting the Madrid Matadors (28-29, 4th place Western Alliance) for three games. They have not seen the Matadors since 7 May when they were swept in a 3 game series. On 16 June Amsterdam travels to Belfast in search of another series win against the Northstars from whom they took 3 or 4 games in May.

Not sure if we would have traded for Ramos. At this point we're just trying to acquire affordable depth. Expect Brussels to be in on a lot of waiver claims till we can strengthen our farm. Plus there was a little bit of gamesmanship in our claim. Amsterdam is a scary team. An injury or two and Ramos might be back in the fold pitching in key spots down the stretch.

We definitely needed Ramos. Ashwin Vlasblom was being a crybaby so we had to cut him. Ramos will take his place in our pen.
