The Storm hoped to build on their series victory over Las Vegas. Instead they were swept at home by the Hawaii Tropics. Here's how it happened.
Game One: The series got off to an inauspicious beginning as the Storm lost 9-3. Domingo Beccera started and pitched very poorly, walking seven hitters in 4 1/3 innings. Matthew Krieger and Felix Ramirez came out of the bullpen, and neither of them were much better. There was little to write home about offensively either. Phan Ta and Austin Gibson each had two hits, and Gibson launched his fifth home run of the season.
Game Two: The Storm suffered a frustrating 4-3 defeat. Angel Cervantes got the start and he pitched quite well, allowing only one earned run in seven innings. Unfortunately for Cervantes, he made an error that allowed a run to score. The Storm's offense also didn't help matters, as they grounded into 2 double plays with the bases loaded. Ivan Salas, Dave May, Phan Ta and Keith Moss each had two hits, and Ivan Salas hit his 5th home run of the season, but it wasn't enough to score more than 3 runs and the Storm were unable to recover from the 2-run home run that Greg Downing allowed in the 8th. The Storm left 12 men on base.
Game Three: Hawaii completed the sweep with a wild 11-10 win. Dennis Tolbert started and pitched poorly, but he had plenty of company in that department; no one from the bullpen pitched particularly well. The Storm attempted to mount a comeback and secure another walk-off win, but Roman Empire struck out with the bases loaded. Empire launched his first home run of the season, while Miguel Garcia and Dave May each had three hits. The normally sure-handed Vincent Adams made two errors, which also didn't help matters.
