Winning is Better Than Losing
April 8, 2063 All total, the Bikini Krill offense generated 21 doubles, a triple, and seven home runs (three by second year DH Al Schumann) while taking series victories from Valencia and San Fernando. Newly acquired center fielder Amin Abdul-Halim contributed five doubles and a homer, while rookie Abhijana Swammy clouted four doubles and a triple.
Veteran starter Takashi Nakamura got a hot start and sits at 2-0 with a 2.40 ERA, but the rest of the rotation has been tepid, with veteran Arturo Mezza and rookie Nelson Williams both being blasted in their openers, and highly touted sophomore Paul Worboys appearing to just kind of go through the motions, gaining his first victory in his outing against San Fernando despite posting a 5.01 ERA to date.
It was enough to leave the team 4-2 and in the hunt for an early chasing of the division lead.
"I like winning," said manager Kate Fiscus when asked to compare her team's start so far this year over seasons of the past--seasons in which the team exited April so far behind that only sustained excellence could have gotten them into the Silly Post Season Exhibition Tournament. "I mean, it's like better than losing. But it's a long season. We know that as well as anyone."
She went on to note the general excitement inside the clubhouse.
"We think we're going to be pretty good, even if some other pundits don't. But really, none of that matters. The main point is that at the end of every game we want to point to the scoreboard and know we've done what we need to do."
In other words, winning is better than losing.
