First Wave of Kids Go Home
March 17, 2063 Catalina Island: It's that time of year again, meaning the fields in spring camp ar getting a little tiresome, and the guys are itching to start playing games that matter. It also means that kiddo auditions are over, and many of the players the Bikini brings to camp for observation purposes have now been fully observed. The team announced today that sixteen players have been reassigned to mostly the lower minors.
The top performer returning to R-Level Ogden was outfielder Boguljub Pograjac. Who hit .300 in ten at bats, striking out only once, and stealing abase. The 19 year-old Bulgarian will likely start a third season in Ogden, but everyone expects him to be in SA-Level Port au Prince by the end of the year, and perhaps higher. "BP is a guy I've got my eye on," said field manager Kate Fiscus. 'I think he can really play ball."
Also returning to Ogden are 3B Ken Haupt, SS Platon Mousa, and SP Alex Luna, though some speculate Luna will be assigned up to Port au Prince.
If he makes it he'll be joining spindly CF prospect Sean Crowe, who delighted spring crowds by hitting .500 with a homer. The club is high on him for both his skillset and his marketability, thought there is some concern that he's going to need to work on the glove side of his game if he's going to make time in Bikini some day. 1B Antonio Hernandez also stood out, hitting .571 with a homer and two RBI.
Joining then in the Door Into the Prince are RP Pedro Valencia and Javier Fayarde, SP Humayun Ali, LF Pedro Alvarez, and RF Kelvin Maxwell.
Last season's third-round pick 3B, Harry Casey made waves on Catalina Island before being returned to A-Level Lake City, hitting .500 in eight at bats, with a double and two RBI. His left-handed bat drew attention. At 19 years-old, the club expects he'll be in Lake City all season. He's being joined by fellow 3B Benji Amberman, 2B Randy van Steenderen, SP Court Cheek, and RP Jesus Saucedo.
"IT's always great to see the kids in spring camp," Fiscus said of the whole. "I was especially glad to see that we're getting deep enough that we didn't have anyone under 18 here. I'm looking forward to seeing more of these guys in the future."
