October 6, 2061 | Forever Land | "I think you're looking at the future All-time franchise saves leader, if you ask me," said Gaul Senne, a part-time bartender in Senegal, and a big fan of the Bikini Atoll. He's talking about Krill rookie Winston Morris, who has just finished with an 8-4 record and 44 saves, a landmark performance for a rookieespecially given he pitched to a 2.1 leverage indicator. As a rookie, he blew five savesthree of which came in one fateful two-week span, one of which the team came back to win. Morris's 44 saves represent the fourth-best performance of any closer in franchise history, and sits only three off the franchise's record.

"He was just getting adjusted," Senne said, wiping down a set of glasses. "Just wait until next year."

Needless to say, Senne is not particularly please with rumors coming from the league's closed award voting that says his favorite player is getting shut out of both the Gilstrom Rookie of the Year and Egan Reliever of the Year tally. "I hear he's not even Top-10 in the Gilstrom," Senne said. "So it's obvious there's some payola going on here."

Senne's view that Morris could soon be the franchise's all-time save leader is not really wrong, depending on how you define "soon." At that 44/year rate, Morris would break the top three after his fourth season, then take the top spot in his fifth. Assuming health remains stable, there's no reason to think that's not possible.

Right now, though, Morris is really focused on one thing.

"I need to get my pickles and eggs for breakfast tomorrow," he said. "That's my thing. Chicken and pickles for breakfast means a save is coming tonight."

Hmmm...

Whatever you say, Winston.
