Abrasive Lefty Making His Mark
March 7, 2057
Despite some grumbles in the clubhouse when members of the Krill learned that the team had traded for left-handed veteran Norberto Garcia, things have quieted down a bit recently, as the 31-year-old from Rodeo Mexico registered five shutout innings in five appearances. He’s scattered two hits and walked one batter. Those kinds of numbers make friends of enemies right quick.
“I can’t help what people think of me,” Garcia said in an interview after the deal. “People can say what they want and can think what they want. But I get to do the same thing. No one can tell me how to be when I’m outside the lines, right? That’s what it means to be free, after all. I get to be me. My family loves me like I am. Most of the time, anyway. If that’s too much for you guys in the press … and for anyone else for that matter, though, well, that’s your problem, now, isn’t it? I need to put food on the table like everyone else, right? All I can do is to go out and pitch and see what happens. So that’s what I’m going to do.”
So far, so good.
