Chasing The Storm 2013-17 CLG Series Review

Post by njherdfan » Thu Nov 14, 2013 9:44 pm

Seattle entered this series in an unfamiliar position: second place to the Marauders. With a good series, however, they knew that could change.

Game One: The Storm got off on the right foot with a 5-3 victory. Angel Cervantes contributed a very good start; he went 8 innings and gave up three runs, and Paul Hogan pitched a routine ninth inning to notch the save. At the plate Roman Empire, Trey Williams and Manuel Roman each had two hits, while Shawn McClure hit a home run.

Game Two: The Storm continued their solid performance with an 8-1 victory. Dennis Tolbert got the start and went 8 innings and gave up one run. Although he gave up ten hits and made sabermatricians cringe, the Storm were more than happy with his performance. Greg Downing finished up by striking out two in the 9th inning. Dave May led the way at the plate with 4 hits and Tipper Kengos had 3. Miguel Garcia and Phan Ta each added two.

Game Three: The Storm completed the sweep with a 6-5 walk-off win. Esteban Benitez got the start and pitched well, but was victimized by allowing 2 home runs. He also struck out 10 hitters in 7 1/3 innings. Unfortunately for Benitez, he didn't get the win because Paul Hogan blew the save by allowing a two-run home-run in the top of the 9th. The Storm were able to win on a walk-off, however, when Tipper Kengos singled, was bunted to second, stole third, and then scored on Austin Gibson's sacrifice fly. Kengos was also the only player on the Storm to have multiple hits. Jose Munoz hit a home run for the Storm.
