Abdul-Halim Breaks Knee
INJURY BRINGS SOLID SEASON TO HALT, CASTS CONCERNS OVER KRILL
July 4, 2063 While the nation celebrated Independence Day in whatever way they celebrate, Bikini Krill fans and their centerfielder had darker thoughts on their mind. Amin Abdul-Halim, a quietly obtained GBC import, rounded third base and scored a go-ahead run on a tricky slide, but in the process, suffered a fracture that will end his season.
"I knew it was bad the minute it happened," the centerfielder said.
The team went on to score eight times in the inning, defeating the Brook Park Robins by a score of 13-3 and grabbing control at the top of the Pacific Division, but after the game the story in the clubhouse was all about 26-year-old Abdul-Halim, wo has has a stellar season for the Krill. "He's been a rock in center," said fellow outfieldier and All-Star outfielder Julio Lopez. "He's been just what we needed." Halim has surprised pundits with his power, blasting 12 homers to go with a .277/.319/.454 slash, as well as a solid glove, posting a 3.5 ZR with a 1.019 EFF. "I thought he should be on the All-Star team, too, to be honest. He's a great player out there."
Manager Kate Fiscus was mostly pragmatic about it in her post-game presser. "It's a shame," she said. "The team was just coming together after getting trough an early wave of injuries. But baseball is a brutal game, and we've got to move forward while we deal with adversity. That's how life is, all the best things come in hard packages."

Will We See Sanz?
In the short term, corener outfielder Felix Moreno slid over to take Abdul-Halim's role, but most team insiders think the final answer to filling the hole lies either in the trade market or with 20-year-old AAA centerfielder Ramon Sanz.
Sanz, the team's first round selection in 2061, was projected to start the season on the atoll, but was returned to Pasco when the klub signed Abdul-Halim. Last season the kid from Reno spent half the year with the AAA affiliate, and posted numbers solid enough to register 1.3 WAR in 291 plate appearances. This year, he's been even better, with 9 homers and a .330/.392/.527 slash to go with a more than respectable +6.9 ZR and 1.068 EFF. It's the last that has insiders suggesting he's the likely solution.
"The Krill's front office doesn't like to trade future for present," said Forever Land Sports Network's Misty Morgan. "And they've been touting Sanz as their centerfielder of the future ever since they drafted him. Unless a deal that is just too good to pass up falls into their laps, I think we're going to see Ramon Sanz in centerfield in the next couple days."
