Krill Klub Nets Three Prospects
FRONT OFFICE CHUMS $5.5M INTO THE DRINK
January 6, 2062 | Forever Land | Undaunted by appearing to have maybe thrown away $3.5M on relief pitcher Conrado Guzzetti during last year's International Free Agent market, Bikini Krill General Manager Ron Collins has gone a step further, writing three checks for a $5.5M to bring in three offensive players this year.
And by offensive, we're not sure which interpretation we'll be meaning.
Such is the risk of signing teenagers from the International Free Agent pool.
"I'm excited about these guys," Collins said. "Me and my staff decided to focus on defenders up the middle because that was our biggest weakness going forward. And I think these three fit the bill perfectly both for talent and for signability."

Greek SS Could
Make Thunder SoonPerhaps the most interesting of the signees is 18-year-old shortstop Platon Mousa, a 6'2" 170 pound athlete already known for an implacable nature. The team's notes suggest that they think his age and level were attractions, and that he might be able to fill a role at shortstop in Ogden, Rookie ball, a position that current top SS prospect Abdul-Muta'al bin Essam is expected to move on from in 2062. Mousa is considered to be a solid all-around offensive player at the position, who could use some counseling with the glove.
The club gave him $2.5M to sign his autograph on his deal.
We're not sure that was wise, but it is at least a million bucks less than they threw in the drink for Guzzetti.

Good Glove Nets
$2M PaydayOf a similar nature, the Krill signed Iraqi catcher Yunis Husain for $2M, which is a lot of Krill chum, but they once again touted the 16-year-old's development as a catcher. "We like his glove a lot," Collins said in his press release. Offensively, scouts project him as another "Do a Little of Everything" kind of hitter from the right side of the plate.
There is some question as to whether Husain could also find himself in Ogden this year, a decision that will likely depend on any springtime progress of currently projected Thunder Duck prospect Takiji Takata, and whether the club drafts another catcher who could fill the role. Time will tell. In the meantime, Husain has already reported to the Klub's International complex.
"I like to scope things out early," the catcher said. "It just makes me feel better."

Could CF Doubt
Light Fire? And, finally, the guy most likely to NOT play the position the Krill signed him for, comes "centerfielder" Labeeb bin Muntasir, also from Iraq. Don't get us wrong. His glove is fine. Quite nice for a left fielder, anyway. But at present no one is really projecting him out as a centerfielder.
Still, as a corner outfielder, Muntasir still projects nicely. If he were to make the big league team this year, his glove might well be the best of any of the team's current corners. And if he grows into the kind of hitter scouts like to talk about, he'll be a solid if not spectacular bat from the left side of the plate. Something not particularly easy to come by at times. "I want to be a centerfielder," Muntasir said after hearing doubters. "I'll figure something out."
Muntasir came with a $1M price tag, which, we guess, is something.
Are the Krill Done?
There is some speculation that the team could return to International waters before this session is over. This is because the expenditure puts them $750K over the $4.75M allotted cap, which is just over the 15% level that shuts them out of much of the bidding for 2063. While any additional expenditures would come with a 100% tax, it would at least result in a player.
Of course, this question also comes with the news that the team's budget has been dropped by an additional $4M.
So.
You know.
Whatever.
