Bikini Survives Tense Series

October 5, 2061: San Fernando Michael Buckley isn't 100% sure where he's going to play baseball next season, but right now he doesn't care. "I hit it pretty good, but I thought it was catchable, to be honest. I'm glad it found a gap," he said of a deep, looping fly ball the pinch hitter blasted in San Fernando's Chico Bail Bonds Ballpark. In any other park it might have been out on his own, but for Buckley to turn this one into a homer he had to run the bases.

"I thought he was going to have heart attack," said first baseman Mike McClure.

But Buckley made it home to cap a 3-run, inside-the-park homer that put the Bikini Krill ahead of Game 5 of their Geoghegan Round series, a lead they would not relinquish.

It sounds weird, yes, but the Bikini Krill are moving on. After beating the Bears three games to two, they will face the behemoth Nashville Bluebirds. No one gives them much hope, but today that doesn't matter. "We're still alive," said manager Kate Fiscus after the game. "I'm really proud of the guys. They had a lot of chances to fold, but they reached down inside and found ways to win."

McClure was equally effusive. "I love this team. I don't know where we're going to end up, but it's one day at a time from here on out. We've got to focus, and just rely on each other. And what will be will be."

Third baseman Kata Ishibashi was the unlikely series MVP after bashing two homers and eight hits in the five games. He walked twice and scored four runs. "I'd rather be lucky than good," he said, accepting the award after thanking his wife and parents, and then the rest of the team. "No one seems to think we can make anything happen, and that's best for us."

The pre-series line was slanted to San Fernando.

"It's an emotional night," Fiscus said. "So we're going to celebrate a bit. But the Bluebirds are on the horizon, and reality will set in soon enough. We'll Door back to Forever Land tonight, try to get a little sleep, and maybe do a little practice at the park tomorrow just to decompress. We'll Door into Nashville as late as we can, you know? The less time we spend there, the better."

Congrats on getting the series win. I think you guys could give Nashville a bit of a scare.

I don’t know how I feel about door as a verb. Maybe it will grow on me?
