Pitching Coach Age Questioned
RETIREMENT ON THE HORIZON?
September 24, 2061: FOREVER LAND Pitching coach Ernesto Zamora is under some heat recently, which is a situation he really hasn't been in for some time. Brought in to stabilize the staff, Zamora has generally been considered to have been mostly successful. He's well know for his ability to teach, after all. That said, there have been some misseslast year's Samuel Nebrasak fiasco being front and center, but this year's implosion of Francisco Ortiz could be exhibit B. In addition, fans of the team around the globe have been noting that while the staff's overall performance hasn't been terrible (the rotation is 9th in the Frick with a 4.33 ERA and the bullpen's 3.97 ERA is fifth...all adding up to a solid 5th with a 4.01 FIP), the numbers haven't been as stellar as the team had been touting to begin the season.

Aging Coach
Under Heat"We expected the best bullpen in the league," one poster said earlier this week. "Not just a good one."
Others noted that the entire rotation seemed to forget how to pitch for three weeks in May. "Ortiz was so bad Vidaca had to go back to the mound." Which then led others to note that the highly popular Felix Vidaca, too, has lost a notch on his fastball under Zamora's watch.
Age Questioned
"I think the game's passed the old man by," another poster said in the Krill Kroner VR Room. "I hear he just sits there on the bench popping tofu chips and telling stories about the old days."
There may be some truth to this story. Veterans Vidaca and Shea Valance have made thinly veiled comments about their levels of enjoyment with their handling (Valance has been essentially demoted due to the arrivals of young guns Winston Morris and Enrique Villarreal. Something he's not particularly happy about). While everyone seems to respect him, it's unclear that he has any great supporters among the rest of the staff.
Retirement in the Future?
Zamora will turn 68-years-old in December. He has another season at $1M left on his contract, but some are beginning to wonder if perhaps he might retire.
"It's not like he has anything else to prove," said Misty Morgan, the baseball desk anchor for the Forever Land Sports Network. He's had a full career, including managing in Montreal and coaching in Atlantic City before that, and his teams have been pretty good almost all the time. At 68, you wonder if the get-up-and-go might have got up and went."
Zamora has said nothing to date, but the team's whisper network says that the executive suit is preparing for just such a decision.
