Amid Rotation Concerns, Another Loss Could Kan Krill

September 2, 2061: Vancouver Star pitcher Takashi Nakamura went six innings tonight, as the Bikini Krill defeated division rival Vancouver, but all was not well for the team as afterward Takashi was reported to have hit the trainer's table for a little inspection. "He said his back was barking a bit," said manager Kate Fiscus in her postgame briefs. "I think he'll be fine."

When leaving the park Nakamura concurred with his manager's assessment, though he was striding a bit more gently perhaps than he had been before.

The issue can't help but raise fears amid the ranks of Earth's team, as it comes on the heals of Jon Brown and Brody Picot both suffering season-ending problems though Picot continues to suggest that he will be back if the team progresses into the post season. While not necessarily the Four Shrimpmen of the Apocalypse Brown, Picot, Nakamura, and Arturo Meza made a respectable rotation. If Nakamura can't go, that leaves only Meza to lead a patchwork of arms.

"We'll be fine," Fiscus said dismissing pointed questions. "It's a tough row to hoe, but I've had tougher. I fully expect Takashi to make his next start while we're in Portland."

Will Injury Scratch Nakamura from Team's Plans?

Nakamura is in similar situation as Picot, since the player's reps and the team had been orbiting each other when it came to extension talks. Nakamura signed a gaudy $21M deal for just this season, betting on himself in the long-run. His performance, while solid enough this season, has not been $21M stellar, and the aging starter has also seemed to lose a notch off the fastball as the season has progressed. It's enough to ponder if the team might decide that they could use the money elsewhere. Bikini sits at $88M committed to next season's payroll already, and with Nakamura's agent suggesting the pitcher would be looking for multiple years at a number in the low-to-mid-teens, some insiders are wondering if we're seeing the last of Nakamura on the atoll.
