House Band to Play Drive-In Song
April 4, 2060: Bikini Atoll – At the annual Home Opening Day press conference, Assistant GM Monica Green announced that, pursuant to the idea that the club’s bullpen could well end up the best in the league, the Krill were unveiling a new-look reliever entrance program that would include a fancy new Krill Kart to deliver the fresh arm to the mound and a rousing new version of Bikini Kill’s classic song “This is Not A Test,” which would be played buy the new house band, Kill Klones, during the new arm’s arm-up period.
“The cart is a modern-day miracle,” Green said. “It comes complete with a direct speaker connection to get the pitcher properly amped, an easy-snap shoulder warmer, and sample supply of rosin to dry fingers off with.” She also acknowledged that the air handling system was set to deliver the bullpen arms a supply of pure oxygen that “our team doctors promised would not kill anyone, and was completely legal.”
Kill Klones Stoked
Hanna Kat, Kill Klone’s lead singer, said she and the rest of the Klones were geared up to bring Riot Grrrl culture back to the forefront where it belongs. “It will be great to mix ‘Test’ into the repertoire” that fans will enjoy as part of the seventh inning stretch each day.
Rumor is that the Opening Day stretch will feature “Thurston Hearts the Who,” but Kat was not willing to confirm it.
“The fans will just have to come out and see. That's the joy of being the team's house band. The ability to make things spontaneous. We can’t wait to play, and expect to see the Krill take home a victory. It's fruckin' cool that the girls get to sit up front, too. Girl GM, girl manager, girl band. Now all we need is for the team to trade for Jodie Hanna.”
Bullpen Arms Excited
“Sure, I’m pumped,” said young Winston Morris, who might make his home debut as Vancouver arrived to town. “Who wouldn’t be? Those songs still kick ass.” Veterans Felix Vidaca and Shea Valance were a little less exuberant, but seemed pleased. “I always hate that walk,” Valance said. “Totally saps my stamina. And the idea of the Kill Ks dropping the walk-in music live is kinda cool.”
The club takes on Vancouver tonight.
