A Check on Team Happenings

April 8, 2059: Forever Land – Folks who had “week 1” on their bingo cards came up big today as outfielder Graham Aubry suffered some groin tightness during the second game of three against Sacramento. The injury will not put him on the IL, yet, but in response, the team will be playing Jeffery Smith fulltime. “I don’t know what happened,” Aubry said of his injury, which came while legging out a double in the fourth inning. “I mean, we’re not even playing in Portland.”

###
The Bikini Medical staff says that shortstop Larry Barkin appears to be on track to begin baseball activities next week sometime. The team expects he’ll spend one week in Pasco to get his spring training legs back. In the meantime, young and reportedly sure-handed shortstop Keith Williams has already made two errors so far this season.

###
In other shortstop news, after a solid spring camp, team scouts have upgraded their viewpoints of young Mitchell “VODAK” Cook. Cook had been slated to start in Short-A this year, but word comes that he’s been asked to report to A-Level in Lake City starting immediately.

###
Among the names placed on DFA last week was that of four-time Nebraska winner Carlos Flores, who the team signed last year and brought to their Catalina Island Spring Camp. Flores finished with a 17.47 ERA. Next stop, retirement and the Hall of Fame, right?

###
The team’s trade of Jayden Nicholls to Long Beach apparently opened the door for John Parrish to join the rotation. He suffered a mild oblique strain after throwing out of the bullpen last week, but Manager Richard Lawson has said fans can look forward to seeing him make a start “sometime this week” depending on when the team trainers say he’s ready. In the meantime, Samuel Nebraska, who was under some consideration to fill a stopper’s role, made two starts, instead. So who knows what the team will do.

###
Veteran third baseman Manny Collazo will come off the minor league IL this week and will begin playing in Pasco. Signed on a minor league deal, the 37 year old will be supplying depth in case of injury to Run-ming Gui.
